The Consortium of Cochin Port Trust and Kerala Tourism today held meetings with the representatives of the Volvo Event Management Co UK (VEMUK), Yachting Association of India and the Event Managers and the marketing agency to review the arrangements being made for the Volvo Ocean Race India Stopover here.
The Cochin Port has already initiated action for redevelopment of the roads and public amenities at the North End of Willingdon Island, development of land and covered areas for housing the hospitality pavilions of the race organisers, racing teams, sponsors and pavilion for exhibitions for the stopover between December three and 13, a release said here today.
Discussions were held on designing the proposed race village, special berth arrangements for the race boats and berth requirements of other boats and yachts visiting the port.
Talks were also held on the marketing plans, various sponsorship and advertising opportunities related to the event, the release added.

Five months before the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009, PUMA Ocean Racing had its new racing boat christened “il Mostro” by Oscar-nominated actress Salma Hayek in a waterfront ceremony at the Institute of Contemporary Art/ Boston on Monday, May 12th. The 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race will be the 10th running of this ocean marathon. Starting from Alicante in Spain on 4 October 2008, it will for the first time, take in ports in Asia. Spanning some 39,000 nautical miles, stopping at around 11 ports and taking nine months to complete, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world’s premier yacht race for professional racing crews.
